of all the Daldinia spp. known to occur in the US or Canada:

D. asphalatum – SC, MD, OH, IN

D. australis – HI

D. bambusicola – DC (likely introduced from Asia)

D. caldariorum – CAN (British Columbia)

D. childiae – WI, OH, AL, CA, CO, CT, FL, IL, IA, KS, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MS, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OR, PA, TX, VT, VA, WI, CAN (Ottowa)

D. clavata – FL

D. decipiens – PA

D. eschscholtzii – CA, FL, LA, TX, Virgin Islands

D. gelatinosa – NH, CAN (?)

D. grandis – CA, CO, WA,

D. lloydii – NY, ID, ME, NH, NC, PA, VT

D. loculata – SD, CA, CO, ID, MA, UT, VA, CAN (Ontario)

D. loculatoides – IL, OR, CAN (Ontario)

D. nemorosa – CAN (??) (anamorph cultured from soil)

D. cf. nemorosa – CAN (Alberta)

D. petrinae – ID, CA, MA, MI, NY, IN, NH, RI, TN, WA, CAN (Ontario)

D. cf. petrinae – MA

D. placentiformis – FL, IN, KS, MO

D. sp. WSP54679. – ID

D. starbaeckii – TX

D. vernicosa – NC, OH, MO, AR, CT, GA, KS, LA, MA, MI, MO, MT, NJ, NY, NC, PA, TN, WV, CAN (Ontario, Quebec)

D. childiae is clearly either one of the most widespread sp. in NA, one of the most commonly collected, or both, but it is very far from the only Daldinia sp. to be encountered on the continent, and is one of three reported from Ohio (D. vernicosa & D. asphalatum being the other two, the former being just as prolific).
