My guess is they are younger specimens based on color (and shape). Can you get back and see if they have changed?

Are these specimens somewhat old then?

Looks like a P. schweinitzii to me. These run a gambit of colors depending on how old they are. They can be found on the tree or on the ground near the base of the tree. Usually Doug fir if I remember correctly.
