One way to keep up with the changing names…

is to interact with MO members… like we are doing now.

Index Fungorum is a good source for learning the current names… although IF is not always correct. http://www.speciesfungorum.org/names/fundic.asp Use the “genus search” to get started by inputting the genus name. Current species names seen in the genus list are written in green print.

Any MO member may vote on any proposed name at any time. Confidence level in the low 90%s is very high confidence. Lower confidence may mean the information available is not sufficient to have high confidence. Or, like in the case of the morels seen here, there may be a species that looks just like another species (“americana” vs. “ulmaria” in this case).

Can I wait…

HERE for some people to make up their minds? Thanks for the update. How do you keep up with name changing game?

The species name “americana”…

was published before “esculentoides”, and is now regarded as the correct species name for the NA “yellow morel”. Morchella ulmaria is a very similar NA species.
