Observation 296397: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray

When: 2017-09-08

Collection location: New Milford, Connecticut, USA [Click for map]

Who: cmy610

No specimen available

When I first saw this mushroom, I thought it looked like a cross between a puffball and a cortinar. It was 1.5 inches wide (cap) and about 2 inches tall. The cap was tan/cream colored. The base had some lavender/brown coloring. Flesh was lavender. The cap hadn’t opened up, but the gills were purple. Growing on the ground in a deciduous forest. There were several of these mushrooms growing in the area – all in this stage.
