A few fruiting bodies growing at the base of a mature eastern white pine, with two more white pines nearby, as well as sweet gums and maples. No other conifers in the vicinity.
The significance of this collection is that S. luteus is reported to be exclusively associated with hard pines (2-3 needles in a bundle).1
This is the second time I am finding this species at this exact site (see obs 150958 from 4 years ago to the day).
