Growing gregariously at the base of a mature white pine, with 2 more white pines nearby, and only 3 ft away from S. luteus of obs 296627.
My first impression was brevipes. However, that taxon is exclusively mycorrhizal with 2-3 needle (hard) pines… but so is luteus. I think this is likely a short-stiped version of the “lactifluus” variety of the NA “granulatus”.
