Notes:
originally thought to be one of the tiny, black Hohenbuehelia spp., but no metuloids were observed. the fruiting bodies were extremely hard/horny upon drying. note “princess bubblegum with crown”-shaped cystidia.

Substrate: on bark of fallen wood

Habitat: rivine in mixed hardwood forest with scattered eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)

Ecoregion: Eastern Great Lakes Lowland Forest (NA0407)
