Found on a Dead but standing oak tree. Tree has been dead for at least 5 years. The tree had numerous specimens of various sizes just like the subject in the pictures. The color and texture appear to imitate the dead bark. All of the specimens on the tree are similar. No other types were seen during my cursory examination of the tree.

The color is bands of various shades of black and white. It looks like a draped cloth and it appears to be one organism. No odor was detected. When dry it is stiff but not hard. When wet it is pliable and possibly could be torn into pieces.
Very fine pores which are not visible with my hand held magnifier. It has a light suede like color and texture.
