Notes:
Growing on a Tyromyces-like polypore on a hardwood log. Perithecia bright orange and turning purple in 1M KOH. Asci unitunicate, 8 spores. Spores breaking into 2 and part spores smooth, hyaline and dimorphic, with one rounded end and one tapered end. Spore measurements: (2.5) 2.6 – 4.4 (4.7) × (1.6) 1.8 – 2.8 (3.5) µm, Q = (1.1) 1.13 – 2.3 (2.6); N = 30, Me = 3.6 × 2.3 µm; Qe = 1.7

Looks like the growth on Tyromyces-like polypores and bright orange perithecia are pretty distinctive compared to similar taxa but might not be good enough on their own to confidently identify this species.

how many observations of hypocreoids on polypores merit species level IDs without micro. If I’m not mistaken, there is macroscopic and ecological crossover between H. pulvinata, H. sulphurea, H. citrina and P. pallida, to say nothing of other polyporicolous spp. I’m forgetting or am unaware of…
