Observation 29910: Hygrocybe virescens (Hesler & A.H. Sm.) Montoya & Bandala

When: 2009-12-04

Collection location: Tilden Regional Park, Contra Costa Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Julia (julicab123)

Specimen available

The specimens bright color and shape made me think it was a Hygrocybe. After examining it under the scope, its very long basidia and parallel gill trama confirmed this genus. Its green color led to one of two choices, virescens or psittacina. The lime green tint, white at the base, and dry cap distinguished it from psittacina.
