of X. brunneola from Colorado says “mossy area probably from buried wood”.

I’ll report the herbarium specimen when it’s really dried and accessioned.

These seemed to just be growing in moss, but there was probably rotting wood underneath.

Looks like there aren’t many documented occurrences of this species. Any details available? Too bad you didn’t manage to preserve some. (No specimen reported.)
