But it can be solidly black for Micromphale arbuticola, too.

and altho conifer needles and other leafy debris is its usual habitat, it is also listed as being found on wood in CA Fungi.

M. androsaceus is more commonly found on needles. The wood looks like madrone bark, so how about Micromphale arbuticola?
