Observation 301274: Tricholoma (Fr.) Staude

When: 2017-12-03

Collection location: Franklin Co., Virginia, USA [Click for map]

Who: Cody Morgan (Cody)

Specimen available

Found near the edge of a mostly oak forest, wash out area where lots of water travels during heavy rains.

Greening on the disc of cap, also where damaged later on.

Odor is sweet/vanilla like and spicy/ cinnamon like but thats a poor description, its pretty complex. My girlfriend related the smell to hot tomales candy.

I should have waited on the spore print before posting. They look very similar to I. corydalina to my amateur eyes, I was fooled for sure. Along with the green staining it appears they also stained very light pink/red in the inner stem flesh, I had no idea such a tricholoma existed.

The more you know huh? :)
