Nathan Wilson’s Santa Cruz collection…

…is obs 28, if anyone is wondering. Ron Pastorino’s obs 119472, also from the SF area, could be the same thing, too. Even if all these CA collections are conspecific, I very much doubt this is the same mushroom Peck described from the northeast. It’s a new to science species that doesn’t have a name yet. I think this has been already discussed in some MO post awhile back.
Heck, in over a decade of collecting on my own in the northeast and browsing the voluminous bolete finds of past NEMF forays, I don’t thing I’ve seen confidently identified T. indecisus (Peck) Murrill in the flesh. Some Tylos are just not easy to ID.
IMO, the best candidates for this taxon on MO that are in agreement with the modern species concept (e.g., http://www.mushroomexpert.com/tylopilus_indecisus.html) are Walter Sturgeon’s obs 140822, John Plischke’s obs 250485 and Eva Skific’s obs 284090.

Looks exactly like what Nathan found in Santa Cruz California

I understand there are very few Tylos in western NA.

Just saw the pores in the last photo. Does look like Tylopilus.
