I wonder if any Singerocybe species other than adirondackensis is reported to have the strong foul odor? Of course, I don’t think it’s useful to disregard the possibility that the ones in this observation may represent adirondackensis. But, looking at internet photos, and considering my own collections of this species, the gray caps seem out of character.

that I am aware if is S. adirondackensis, a species that features white fruit bodies. Is S. clitocyboides known to occur in NA? I see online reports of this grayish species from Australia, New Zealand, Europe… but not NA.
I thought about proposing Pseudoarmillaria ectypoides, but the caps seen here appear to virtually smooth… lacking in fibers/scales.
