Notes:
NAMP_#: 3507B
Substrate: dead decoticated hardwood
Habitat: mixed upland hardwood forest
Other: The black balls appear to be ascomata of Scortechinia (Nitschkia) acanthostroma. (I first thought of Annulohypoxylon.) The balls are all empty now, including both those that have what look like exit holes and those unopened, so I didn’t examine spores. The black fuzz is subiculum with hyphae 5-6 microns in width; dichotomously branched with spiny protrusions at ends, dark brown, thick-walled, smooth.
