In the 2008 Matheny PNW key

32a. Pileus reddish brown; flesh strongly rubescent; stipe base often not green; often robust
Inocybe (Inosperma) hirsuta var. maxima A. H. Smith

32b. Pileus brown (umbrinous) to yellowish brown; fles h weakly rubescent; stipe base green; usually medium to small – sized, occasionally robust
Inocybe (Inosperma) calamistrata (Fr.: Fr.) Gill.

I’m not seeing anything synonymizing them, maybe SF messed up?

Is the rumor I have heard. There is probably a Matheny paper which could clarify.

What is the difference between Inocybe calamistrata & I. hirsuta var. maxima?

According the Species Fungorum those two names are synonyms. I would not know which one to deprecate and which one to preffer! Only the MO Consensus can tell.
