Observation 31262: Ramaria violaceibrunnea (Marr & D.E. Stuntz) R.H. Petersen

When: 2009-12-31

Collection location: Salt Point State Park, Sonoma Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)

Specimen available

Ramarias are difficult for me to get to species with any degree of confidence.
These do meet several of the parameters of the referenced description.
They were growing near Tanoak.
The spores were orangy yellow and in the right size range, approx. 9.1-10.2 X 4.7-5.0 microns and finely ornamented.
The branches turned green with ferrous sulfate and reddish with KOH.
The base had significant white rhizomorphs.
