for these chalky white stains without obvious fruiting structures. (They have perithecia, but they are tiny and hard to see.) Anisomeridium biforme, Julella fallaciosa are both common, at least farther south where I’ve studied. Strigula and Mycoporum are also possible. Or collectively “white crap in cracks of bark of old trees”. :)
