Observation 316139: Conopholis americana

Image 1 and 2, specimen are growing on a decaying log underneath the leaf bed. Specimen in image 3 were growing a few meters away from the patch of specimen in images 1 and 2. Image 3 specimen do not appear to be growing on a log. A few other patches of the same species in different locations along the path were identified during the day specified. All of the specimen were located between Ogle lake and the West park observation tower. With help from the community, the specimen has been identified as Conopholis americana (italics). This species is not a fungus; rather, it is a non-photosynthesizing parasitic plant, commonly found on the root systems of oak.
