Observation 31621: Lunularia cruciata

When: 2010-01-07

Collection location: Beaver Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Bob Zuberbuhler (Bob Z)

No specimen available

This small, thin, ribbon-like green organism was found on a rocky bank of a stream in June. The margins are irregular and in some areas the organism is tesselated. Some “tiles” are more or less square, others are rectangular. There are white dots all over. I’ve been told this is a liverwort, and I’m calling it a Lunularia cruciata in the hope that a real liverwort expert will put me strainght
