Notes:
On burned soil around periphery of 2017 Pier Fire. Mixed forest (incense cedar, ponderosa pine, black oak, fir) about 6000 feet elevation. Most if not all specimens had single tissue layer in base of stem. About half a shopping bag full collected in total.

Personally I doubt these are tomentosa

…although I did see a few of those (fuzzy appearance with dark, blunted ridges on young specimens). Those in the photos I think are probably M. septimelata or M. sextimelata because they weren’t fuzzy (even when young). Although I could be wrong, as the young ones were darker than the mature ones.
