The spot where the fruit bodies seen in this obervation are currently maturing is the same site where the following observation was made a year ago obs 279604. The empty “bird’s nests” persisted through the winter and remained in-situ. I saw the old empty nests over a month ago. Some of the new fruit bodies appear to be growing inside the old “nests” (use zoom). Is this because some of last year’s peridioles remained inside the nests and now the spores borne on those eggs are producing new fruit bodies?
