Observation 319155: Amanita sect. Amanita

When: 2018-06-09

Collection location: Shope Creek, North Carolina, USA [Click for map]

Who: Mike Hopping (AvlMike)

No specimen available

Habitat: damp deciduous woods with an occasional hemlock
Cap: diameter 55 mm with 8 mm marginal striations. Smooth and tacky. One small, white wart.
Gills: free, close, short gills end like a hollow-ground chisel blade.
Stipe: 88 mm x 5 (near apex) to 6 mm (above bulb). Solid.
Bulb 16 × 12 mm with a short, free collar.
Partial veil: membranous and mid-level.
Smell: not distinctive.

This seems a good fit for the Tulloss cryptonym sp-N19. Neither of the two currently accepted substitutes for that quasi-A. russuloides name appear to match.
