Observation 320359: Leccinum scabrum group

It is likely that the North American Leccinum “scabrum” will be renamed. Also, there is reason to suspect that NA taxa housed in Leccinum subsection Scabra are in need of revision. For these reasons I think that submission of an example that keys out as the NA “scabrum” is a good choice for NAMP.

Interestingly, I could find no birch trees in the immediate vicinity of this mushroom. Oak-dominated woods with hemlock and beech present. Plenty of small saplings that I believe are witch-hazel. Leaves from one of these small trees are seen in the one photo.

5th and 6th photos down show mushroom about 5 minutes after sectioning.

Spores 16-20 × 6-6.5.
