Is the reason for the name. It is edible but I have not tried it. Bill Roody tells me that unlike most boletes it becomes unpleasant tasting after drying. There are several observations on MO under Boletus projectellus. It is a Murrill species that Singer moved to Boletellus.

projectellus because the pileipellis projects beyond the cap edge, or due to acute toxicity? ;)
