Prominent odor of shrimp, mild pleasant taste.

Slice on gills stained brown. Stipe surface stained yellowish then brown after handling. Stipe context stained light brown.

Side of wide trail through oak-dominated hardwood forest. No conifers in the this area.

Spores 7.5-9.5 × 6.5-7.5; Q variable. Warts projecting ~1 micron.

I have found this reddish-capped species occasionally in the past, always under oak.
