Observation 321178: Myochroidea

on wood at base of old Arctostaphylos; south facing serpentine slope with scattered dwared Pinus ponderosa and mostly dead Arctostaphylos

thallus pale creamy white, thin, scattered warty areoles, K+y strong C- KC+ oranger but slow UV- or faintly orange KUV+y strong; algae to ~17um; apothecia shiny black, rim present but inconspicuously differentiated from disk, to 1mm; epihymenium brown, POL- 100%; hymenium ~40-50um but indistinct below; hypothecium hyaline; exciple brown outside like epihymenium to hyaline inside, formed of dense thin radiating straight branching hyphae, tips slightly swollen and brown-capped; paraphyses simple to weakly branched, entirely hyaline, not swollen at tips, ~2-2.5um thick; asci ~30×15um, broadly clavate, conspicuous broad K/I- axial canal reaching all the way through, often with K/I- layer near top (like Carbonea); spores 8 per ascus, hyaline, simple, narrowly ellipsoid-oblong, ~8-11×3.5-4um
