We have had a rainy day today which in turn has caused a significant amount of the snow to melt off, Found a couple of interesting things in the woods today. Found what appears to be a miniature Fomes fomentarius. This is the 4th time I have encounter this little hoof shaped polypore.
Fruiting body 2.5 cm. × 2. cm,hoof shaped concentrically zoned furrowed narrow at the base. Pore surface white nonstaining when scratched pores fine, slightly turns up at the margin. spore print white.
Found a group. on a denuded hard wood trunk,.
