When: 2018-07-08

Collection location: Dauphin Island, Alabama, USA [Click for map]

Who: Logan Wiedenfeld (LoganW)

No specimen available

Notes:
Growing in the sand dunes under scrubby little oaks (don’t know the species). I saw these last year, and once again I’m struck by the crazy hymenium. These are robust, fragrant (somehow sweeter, fruitier than typical chants), and vibrantly colored. They appear to stain orange where injured. I’d be interested to hear what the chanterelle experts think about these.
