G. nitidus – ?

Just checked Hessler and Smith and they don’t show nitidus in Wisconsin either. But they do show it in Washington State and in Michigan ( so drawing a straight line – ?) If you look here in MO there is zero observations on the west coast – but I suspect G. nitidus is here because of the mention in Hessler and Smith. I want to find it here!!! We have other waxcaps that show up in only the PNW before the jump to somewhere to the east. Thus my interest in your find.

Thanks for the addition picture. The nattering of the stipe – a trait seldom used to ID – suggest a waxcap even maybe a Gliophorus. Still though looks to me to be G. nitidus. Maybe someone else will put in a thought?

I am not aware of any records of that sp. in WI, but I am not that “Tuned in” to such data. I added another photo that shows more of the top of the cap, but it is slightly out of focus (which is why I didn’t include it initially).

Good find! Any chance you have a G. nitidus here? Color and size and gills look right. Not a good view of the cap top so just a guess.
