I think this might be Amanita kryorhodon. This species is known from eastern Canada, Greenland, and Maine. It is plausible that it would occur in Michigan. I will be curious to see the DNA from you material.

Very best,

Rod

Thank you very much for sending the material.

I have had the same problems with photography. I understand the difficulties.

Very best,

Rod

I’ll send this to you

Photograph mushrooms is not easy. Background always grabs the “focus” away from tiny, white, or plain mushrooms. Not to mention, most of the time have to squat or kneel down to take photos. I’ll try to do a better job to record what I see in the woods.

I would very much like to see dried material of this species.

I am unsure whether i have seen it before and probably have not studied this species. The issue of pallid species of section Vaginatae. Seems to be arising repeatedly in recent weeks.

Very best,

It would help your photographs if you could create more depth of field.

One way to do this (if your camera has the capability) is to open the aperture, put the camera on a tripod (or otherwise steady it), and let the timing of the photograph be determined by the camera. If this is no possible try focusing on the stipe and then take a separate photograph with the focus on the cap striations.

Very best,

Rod
