Unfortunately there is some confusion between T. exilis and T. flavicans

Supposedly T. flavicans can be either fertile or not, and when fertile it reputedly looks almost the same as T. exilis. Furthermore, the Sonoran Flora claims T. exilis doesn’t occur in the southwest. Not sure about the Bay Area. Reports seem to be unclear.
