It appears that the original cap color was pale rose red. It faded to olive-brown from the disk toward the margins. The cracked caps are typical of Xerocomellus. The color of the flesh in the cracks is mostly pale yellow, but sometimes is pink. This is not X. chrysenteron, but it might be X. intermedius or a related taxon.
