Found on a mowed trail, right next to an aspen tree that had fallen over and left a hole where the root was. Some of the soil that the root kicked up was on the trail where these were. Soil is typically heavy here (clay, lots of rocks). On one photo you can see what I’d call a spore print on a lower specimen, looked jet black. No real smell to them, they smell like dirt. Caps are very fragile and stems appear to pull apart not unlike string cheese would.
