Observation 331806: Cortinarius iodes Berk. & M.A. Curtis
When: 2018-09-07
Collection location: Moon Lake State Forest Recreation Area, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]
Who: Dave W (Dave W)
No specimen available
Notes:
I’ve been seeing a lot of the medium-sized purple Corts in the local oak woods. Caps are generally subtly innately streaked and dry. These features seem to point away from iodes. For awhile I though I was finding C. azureus. But, when I scoped the spores on this one, azureus does not match and iodes does.
Spores broadly elliptical to elliptical and finely warty (ornamentation seen with my better scope… that does not provide good photo-ops… binocular).
