Unique macro characters include dark red-brown pores in young fruitbodies transitioning to olive brown then pale cream-yellow in mature specimens. Flap of tissue overhangs pore surface in young specimens. cut flesh stains dull slate gray with NO red or pink phase. Very dark scabers. In woods of Black Birch.
