The only boletes I have seen that are anything close to this color—which was almost bright orange in the wild—are Leccinum spp. However, this one didn’t seem to have any scabers on the stalk. In fact, it seemed reticulate. This mushroom was growing out of a bank and looked almost like a shelf, but it did have a stipe. It did not bruise. It wasn’t bitter but also wasn’t good.
