This is great news, Rod, and thank you for so generously including me among the authors. I’m excited about this upcoming/incipient season. With some luck, I’ll find some other cryptic critters.

Thank you for all the hard work you put into this. Your enthusiasm for and commitment to the Amanitaceae is infectious! As a scholar in a different field, I’ve really enjoyed being able to contribute to and learn more about a radically different discipline. You (and others here) make this hobby of mine more edifying, systematic, and enjoyable. All of which is to say: keep up the good work!

I have worked on both sequences and found my mistakes in both of them.

That is to say that I made different mistakes in transcription and editing of the raw data from both MO #204746 and from the present observation.

The result is that I am now convinced that (especially given the difficulty posed for sequencing the nrITS in the present species…possibly another case of failure to homogenize of the ribosomal DNA repeat) the available sequences represent the same species. I propose to name it for the Audubon Park in New Orleans…Amanita audubonensis.

They have nearly identical nrLSU (99.9%).

Neither gives up much nrITS, but we do have some this time.

There’s a little more work to do related to nrITS. But I’d thought you would like to hear what I have so far.

I believe we have a TCT 5’ motif for this creature.
