Observation 338343: Tricholoma acris Peck

Growing singly at the base of a large red oak in mixed oak/birch/white pine/hemlock woods. Cap 5.5 cm, medium brownish gray, streaked with darker fibrils but paler near the margin, convex, edges turned under, flesh thin, whitish, no odor, very bitter tasting. Gills pale brownish gray, paler near the margin, close, adnexed, edges uneven and somewhat rough, no cross gills. Stem 5 cm long x 2 cm thick, narrowed at the base, white, smooth.
