I agree, definitely Stropharia, but it doesn’t seem to fit very well into any of the proposed species included in Bessette, Bessette, and Fischer 1997 (Mushrooms of Northeastern North America), nor does it key easily (for me) using Michael Kuo’s key… has a lot of characters in common with S. hornemannii but the cap color seems too pale even when young, and yet the cap is not dry… I can’t remember how recently it had rained when I spotted this.
I’ll have to collect this if I spot it again on the property. Any other ideas either of you have are greatly appreciated!
