Fruiting singularly beneath Alnus rubra and Acer macrophyllum(in leaf litter). Cap scales are coarsely fibrillose/upturned with a stem that is 1.1/2 the length of cap diameter. Staining orange/then to deep red and eventually black where sliced(as with all members of the edible Macrolepiota group in Washington state).

Saved this single fruiting body/dehydrated for herbarium.

Species Lists

In situ w/left hand for scale.
Orange staining where cut is immediate
Salmon red after a few minutes of being cut. Easy identifier against the non staining and inedible Macrolepiota’s, such as Chlorophyllum molybdites.
Red/salmon staining to gills after a few minutes of handling. Common w/C. rhacodes, C. olivieri and C. brunneum.
