Observation 34031: Tricholoma dryophilum (Murrill) Murrill

When: 2010-02-01

Collection location: Menlo Park, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)

No specimen available

Notes:
Found under live oak.

Cap viscid, taste mild, not bitter. Taste was mostly unpleasant, and slightly like cucumber, but certainly not bitter.

Adding micro details.

The micro-shot is of the gill edge at 400x in KOH. Here you can see the cheilocystidia on a non-fertile edge.

So, with the existence of cheilocystidia this confirms the id of T. dryophilum. And this species is not bitter, but unpleasant and slightly like cucumber.
