[Tullis-Krstic foray]

Growing on the side of a large, well decayed conifer log. No odor , even when crushed; no taste.

The color is striking for a M. maculata. In the field it looked almost white (more than in the photos), but apparently that’s possible and was known to Smith (“some collections pale watery gray over all from the beginning”).

Microscopy agrees with the description. Basidia 25-30 × 7-9, four-spored. Spores 7.5-8 × 4.5-5. Cheilocystidia displaying a great variety of shapes and sizes. Reactions in MLZ standard.
