mild odor and taste -possibly a hint of garlic in odor

dimensions (“open” specimens):
cap 5 to 7 cm wide
stem 4 to 5 cm long, 4 to 8 mm wide

caps convex, incurved margin early, surface densely covered with long, pointed recurved rusty-brown scales; cap color (surface): 4a3, 5b4, 5c5, (scales): 7e5, 7e6, 7f5, 7f6

stems dry, rusty brown scales, often dense, to shaggy ring zone, then white, smooth above to apex; mostly equal, but very swollen at base; stem color: 5c6, 5c5 (white near apex)

spores: ellipsoid, amyloid, 6 -7 × 3.25 -4 um
