But this time I was also 350 miles north of my home, outside of my “usual” domain, so there were lots of lichens I didn’t recognize there.

Nice! isn’t that really rare in the Great Lakes area?

Not exactly common anywhere, mind you, but it is a very striking, conspicuous thing, so it’s definitely not “undercollected”! :)

the top photo is from deciduous tree, and is green; the second and third photo are from pine, and are more yellow. The first specimen grew in deep shade, while the second in the open; I know yellow lichen overall tend to be greener in shade and yellower in the sun.
