Which name should win out?

For a place that makes names fairly important to identity, why have 2 names accepted for the same thing. Or am I just ignorant of a pertinent reason behind it?

MO shows them as synonyms

Differences in the two?

Is there a way to key out these 2 without a microscope?
but it’s not always possible. For one reason they are constantly in flux as new molecular studies are done. In this case Mycobank shows C. crucibuliforme as the current name for and synonymous with C. laeve while Index Fungorum doesn’t. BTW sometimes it is just that Mycobank or IF is not up to date on the latest name changes. That may be the case here with IF. If you are interested you could email Paul Kirk at IF and he will look into it.
