This species of Isaria exclusively parasitizes the nymph stage of Cicadas, in New Zealand there are 5 different genera of Cicada with 42 known species!
The noise they make can be deafening.
Here is a link to my other observation of this cordyceps showing the host.

In the past the Maori people used this mixed with other things to create dyes for their tattoos!
