Observation 34828: Daedaleopsis confragosa (Bolton) J. Schröt.

When: 2010-03-14

Collection location: Franklin Co., Ohio, USA [Click for map]

Who: Aaron (salisbury4573)

No specimen available

Not sure what this is? Any help would be appreciated.

I am sorta new to this, so I am going to guess and say polypore? It is a shelflike mushroom for sure. It has more of a coral type gills, and was fleshy but firm. The inside was a pale color and had juice when squeezed. It did not bruise, and was 8 inches wide, but about 1 to 1.5 inches thick.

Walt said… next time flip it over.
but base on the cap color and overall chunkiness I would lean towards Daedalea quercina

Next time, flip one over so we can see the spore bearing surface. Your ID might be right…
