Observation 34965: Sticta carolinensis McDonald

Notes:
The Ozarks key includes a simple description distinguishing the three related species:

Sticta beauvoisii — large, broad lobes
Sticta carolinensis - small lobes, K medulla (I’ve seen K+ weakly pinkish)
Sticta fragilinata — small lobes, K+ red medulla (anthraquinone?)

All three have ruffled grayish foliose lobes with abundant dark gray isidia and/or lobules along the margins. (Other isidiate Sticta have isidia all over the lobes, not just the margin.)

Sticta carolinensis is the dark “messy” one on the left, Sticta beauvoisii is the paler one on the bottom right.
